Memories of Road Trips Past

At age 11, Marwan fled with his family to Germany to

escape the Lebanese civil war. What was intended as a

brief stay in Munich, Germany, became a permanent

departure from home. His father remained in Lebanon,

visiting the family when it was safe, and during those visits, they embarked on road trips across Europe. Marwan fondly recalls sitting in the backseat, watching clouds shift and imagining melodies that echoed the landscapes. Although the photographs capturing these moments have been lost, their essence lives on in his childhood diaries...

and now in his paintings.

“Memories of Road Trips Past” is a painting series that embodies the spirit of travel through vibrant brushstrokes and melodies. Each piece is divided into two sections: the upper portion features swirling strokes that evoke landscapes and skies glimpsed through a car window, while the lower portion presents structured color swatches that represent musical notes through bar lines and measures. This contrast between the expressive and the structured conveys the movement and fleeting beauty of road trips.

Memories of Road Trips Past is a poignant painting series by Marwan Chamaa,

woven together with the evocative music of Ramzi Moufarej. Each canvas comes alive through a symbiotic dialogue between Marwan’s brushstrokes and Ramzi’s

improvised compositions, merging two artistic souls into a singular tapestry of color and sound. This rare collaboration forms a transcendent journey where visual and

auditory elements interlace, each piece an intimate reflection of shared emotions

and nostalgia.
